Rony M. Zeenny is the Director of the department of pharmacy and the Founding Director of the first PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, Beirut, Lebanon. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Lebanese American University. He completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, affiliated with the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, Memphis, Tennessee. He is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist. He has a University Diploma in principles of clinical research and earned a Master of Public Health in epidemiology and biostatistics.
Before taking his current role, he spent over nine years as a faculty at the Lebanese American University School of Pharmacy and served as a director of experiential education for the 2-year term. He moved to the American University of Beirut Medical Center in 2016 as the Associate Pharmacy Director for Clinical Services, heading adult, pediatric, and oncology teams. Throughout his career, he has successfully implemented many pharmacy initiatives, taught in the classroom and practice settings, and served on numerous university/hospital-based and national committees. He is currently a member of the Emergency Use Authorization Committee on COVID-19 vaccines at the Ministry of Public Health in Lebanon. He is the co-founder of the Antimicrobial Stewardship program at the Lebanese American University Medical Center in 2012 and the American University of Beirut Medical Center in 2017.
He has invested in every opportunity to promote clinical pharmacy and residency training nationally and internationally. He has a passion for pharmacy practice advancement and innovative education. He founded the first pharmacy residency program in Lebanon and got accredited for an 8-year term by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) on U.S.-based accreditation standards.
He has authored more than 50 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and given more than 50 posters and 30 podium presentations on local, national, and international levels.
He is an active member of local and international professional societies, including the Order of Pharmacists of Lebanon, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), the American Clinical College of Pharmacy (ACCP), the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), and the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP).
He is currently the president of the Middle East Chapter of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. In November 2018, he received Distinguished Service Award from the OPL during the 26th Annual Pharmacy Congress. In 2020, he was named Fellow of ASHP in recognition of the successful demonstration of sustained practice excellence for at least ten years, contribution to the total body of knowledge in pharmacy practice, demonstration of active involvement and leadership in ASHP, and active participation in and commitment to educating practitioners and others.
